How the Adoption Process Works
Becoming a Pet Guardian
Adopters from All Over North America are Welcome!
We adopt to experienced pet guardians with excellent records of care for current or previous pets, as verified by their veterinarians. We also verify personal references from those who have known applicants and their pets for more than 5 years. A home visit will be made to ensure the home is ‘pet safe.’ We introduce you to our adoptable pets by appointment once we have processed your adoption application.
1. Fill Our Your Adoption Application
After you have filled out your application at the link below, let us know at AnimalVillageNMAdopt@gmail.com. You may also deliver in person by appointment or mail to AnimalVillageNM 7246 Hwy. 54-70 Alamogordo, NM 88310. Applications can also be faxed to 575-562-7200. Once your application is approved you will be contacted to conduct an at-home visit. After the visit has been cleared, we will schedule an appointment for you to come to our shelter and meet the pets in whom you are interested.
2. Complete the Application Fee
Using the ‘Donate’ button, submit your non-refundable application fee of $25.00. If your adoption application is approved, the fee is applied toward the posted adoption fee. If your application is not approved due to inaccurate, unverifiable, or other reasons that indicate our pet would not be safe in adopter's care, the fee is considered a donation, and a donation acknowledgment is sent for tax purposes.
Please note that our policies are in place for the purpose of our rescued pets' safety and wellbeing. Any applications that may be rejected are due to the policies in place. These rejections are not reflections of our staff's personal opionions.
