Responding to overcrowding in shelters across the country, BPF added an additional Empty the Shelters event in 2018. On December 1, pet lovers will have the opportunity to adopt a pet for $20 and BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor the remaining cost at 81 participating organizations in 14 states. All potential adopters are screened by qualified adoption counselors at every participating shelter to ensure each pet is matched with the right family.

Visit our adoptable pets tab to view available pets.  Fill out adoption applicatation for pre-approval.

Adoption applications must be in by 29 November, 2018.

A Day In The Life.....

ABOUT OUR SHELTER

AVNM is a NO-KILL pet adoption center & animal-welfare facility. When we have open space and funding we partner with animal control facilities to rescue friendly, adoptable death-row dogs and cats. Our mission is to stop the killing of thousands of dogs and cats abandoned at AC facilities. Because of the enormous number of pets being abandoned, New Mexico’s under-staffed and under-funded animal control facilities cannot  keep them alive until committed homes are found. The vast majority of abandoned pets in New Mexico and in the United States never make it out of shelters alive.

We are a private 501c3 non-profit, no-kill, all-breed rescue life-saving organization for pets abandoned to municipal shelters.  We are located at a highly visible & accessible property on NM Hwy 54/70. We have ‘stepped out in faith’ that we will receive the funding and support to save the lives of the animals that we love.

Our cat adoptions are to indoor only homes, no declawing allowed. As our pets have already faced death from euthanasia in shelters, we don't want our adopted cats or kittens to again face death from cars on the road, or by predators. We adopt dogs as family members, not to watch a family live their lives through the window from a backyard, but as beloved companions, who will sleep inside the guardians’ homes, and be an active part of their lives.  All dogs are obedienced trained prior to adoption and adopters must attend free onsite training courses.

AVNM assists our adopters with K9 training and educational support to offer their adopted pets. We expect a lifetime commitment that gives dogs and cats a real place in their families’ lives, and hearts. We are dedicated to this goal.
Animal Village NM offers a 7-acre nature trail and dog walk for the use of volunteers, adopters and the community.

Please support our efforts to maintain our animal welfare center as a place of kindness, safety and excellent care for our beloved animal companions. We are walking our talk here, saving lives daily, with your help.

Mission Statement

To significantly reduce the numbers of abandoned pets being euthanized in New Mexico’s municipal facilities, to spay and neuter them so that the numbers of stray pets do not increase, to fully vaccinate them to stop the spread of disease, and to train the pets to be successful and loved in their new homes.

We strive to maintain self-sufficiency through helpful, coordinated pet services and well-advertised fundraising campaigns. This allows AVNM to expand to an even more efficient, highly trained, communicative and motivated organization.
